- A reliable, all-male variety that produces abundant yields for many years.
- Perfect for grilling, barbecuing, baking, and frying.
- Ideal for a sunny garden bed, vegetable plot, or a spacious container.
- Proud recipient of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit.
- Species: Asparagus
- Harvesting Period: May - June
- Planting Period: March - April
- Position: Full sun
- Soil Type: Moist, well-draining soil. Add plenty of well-rotted manure or compost when planting.
- Habit: Grows upright, with tall ferny foliage in summer.
- Hardiness: H4 - Hardy, but may require some protection from very late frosts as this can damage emerging shoots.
- Pest & Disease Resistance: Generally trouble-free, but can be affected by slugs, snails and asparagus beetles.
- Pollination: Self-fertile, does not need a pollination partner to produce a crop.
- Planting: Plant crowns in March or April. Space them 30-45cm apart. Spread the roots out evenly, handling them carefully as they break easily. Avoid any site that gets waterlogged in winter.
- Watering: Water new plants regularly during their first summer. Once established, plants are drought tolerant and only need watering in long dry spells.
- Feeding: Dig in plenty of well-rotted manure or compost when planting. Apply a high-potassium general fertiliser in early spring.
- Pruning: After harvesting, allow the ferny foliage to grow over summer. Cut it down to the ground in autumn.
Product Specifications
- Supplied As: 5 x bare root crowns
- Eventual Height & Spread: Reaches up to 90cm height with a 60cm spread.
- Time to First Crop: 2 years. Do not harvest in the first year. In the second or third year, harvest for six weeks from mid-April. In subsequent years, harvest for eight weeks.
