Habit: Grows upright, with tall ferny foliage in summer.
Hardiness: H4 - Hardy, but may require some protection from very late frosts as this can damage emerging shoots.
Pest & Disease Resistance: Generally trouble-free, but can be affected by slugs, snails and asparagus beetles.
Pollination: Self-fertile, does not need a pollination partner to produce a crop.

Planting: Plant crowns in March or April. Space them 30-45cm apart. Spread the roots out evenly, handling them carefully as they break easily. Avoid any site that gets waterlogged in winter.
Watering: Water new plants regularly during their first summer. Once established, plants are drought tolerant and only need watering in long dry spells.
Feeding: Dig in plenty of well-rotted manure or compost when planting. Apply a high-potassium general fertiliser in early spring.
Pruning: After harvesting, allow the ferny foliage to grow over summer. Cut it down to the ground in autumn.
