Frequently Asked Questions

Installing border edging is typically straightforward. However willow and hazel may require additional tools for cutting and securing, depending on your requirements.

Wooden lawn edging delivers a warm, organic look that blends seamlessly with turf and planting—no glare, clatter or industrial feel. Because our hazel and willow edging is easy to cut and shape, DIY installation is straightforward: stake sections in place, curve gentle arcs, and level uneven ground without specialist tools.

Renewably sourced timber carries a lower embodied‑carbon footprint than metal or concrete alternatives and stays cool and mower‑friendly. If designs change, boards can be lifted and reused, and at end‑of‑life they biodegrade or chip for mulch instead of heading to landfill.

At Woven Wood we have woven hazel and willow edging, lattice willow edging and log rolls. Each type had it's own aesthetic and practical considerations.

Broadly, willow will have the shortest life, lasting generally 5 or so years, hazel the next shortest normally lasting 8-10 years while chestnut will last the longest at up to 15 years.

Wood being a natural product these are just estimates, and will depend on the climate, use and if the rolls are treated.

The positive with wooden edging compared to metal is that it's completely biodegradable and coppiced willow and hazel is also carbon neutral.
