Soil: Plant in any moist, well draining soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure or compost when planting and avoid any site that gets waterlogged in winter.
Uses: Use in crumbles, pies, jams and stewed in desserts such as rhubarb fool.

Planting: Can be planted at any time of year. Space plants 75-90cm apart to allow for spreading.
Watering: Water well when new, then during prolonged dry periods in summer once established.
Feeding: Apply a general purpose fertiliser in spring or summer. You can also apply a 7cm deep mulch of well-rotted manure or compost around your plants, taking care not to bury the crown.
Pruning: Allow the foliage to die back naturally in autumn, then cut away the old leaves. If your rhubarb produces a flower stalk, cut it down to conserve the plant's energy.
Pests & Diseases: Generally unaffected. Avoid crown rot by watering only when necessary at the base of the plant. Protect young plants from slugs and snails with a barrier such as copper wire or crushed eggshells.
