Planting: Plant in any fertile, well-drained soil. If your soil is heavy clay and prone to waterlogging, improve drainage by mixing in plenty of organic matter.
Pruning: Regular pruning is essential to control growth and promote abundant flowering. It is done in two stages.
Summer Pruning (July/August): Cut back the current season's long, whippy shoots, leaving five buds from the main woody stem. Tie in any new growth required to extend the main framework.
Winter Pruning (January/February): Prune the same shoots again, cutting them back further to leave just two or three buds from the main stem. This encourages the development of flower spurs.
