- Latin Name: Wisteria sinensis
- Species: Wisteria
- Features: Fragrant
- Flowering Time: May, June
- Flower Colour: Violet Purple, Daisy White
- Position: Full Sun to Partial Shade
- Ideal Location: Arch, Pergola, Wall
- Eventual Spread: 5m
- Habit: Climbing
- Hardiness: Fully Hardy
- Pest & Disease: Good Resistance
- Soil Type: Any fertile, well-drained soil
- Pruning: Requires regular pruning
- Planting Time: Can be planted year-round, from January to December.
- Position: Wisteria is a very vigorous deciduous, woody climber which can be trained up an arch, wall or tree, or over a porch or pergola. Plant in full sun for the best flowering results.
- Soil: Thrives in any fertile, well-drained soil. If your soil is particularly clay-heavy and gets waterlogged, make sure you mix in plenty of organic matter and perhaps even gravel or perlite to help improve drainage.
- Hardiness: Fully hardy to the very worst of the British winters.
- Pruning: Pruning is an important task that keeps the plant healthy and promotes flowering. In late summer (July/August), cut back the new whippy growth to five buds from the main woody stems. In late winter (January/February), find the same stems and cut them back further, leaving just 2-3 buds. This two-stage process encourages prolific blooms.
- Pests & Diseases: Wisterias are generally not bothered by pests or disease. Aphids, Scale Insects, Powdery Mildews, and Honey Fungus can affect the plant but the problems are usually not serious.
Product Specifications
- Supplied As: 9L Pots
- Height on Arrival: 140-160cm. The height of your plant will be dependent on the time of year and pruning cycle. All climbers arrive on a 90cm bamboo cane.
