Hardiness: Fully hardy (H5 - hardy in most places throughout the UK, down to -15°C)
Habit: Columnar and upright, spreading via new shoots

Pest & Disease: Excellent resistance; protect young shoots from slugs and snails.

Planting: For the deepest black canes, choose a spot in full sun. Mix well-rotted manure into the soil when planting. Plant 2.5m apart to allow for spreading.
Watering: Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged, for the first year until established. Once established, it should not require additional watering.
Feeding: Feed annually by applying a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost. You can also add a handful of chicken manure pellets in spring and summer.
Pruning: In spring, remove any weak, dead, or spindly stems. To show off the stunning canes, trim the lower leaves and side shoots up to a height of 120cm. Can be trimmed to maintain a desired height or shape.
