Plant in autumn in fertile, deep, and well-drained soil in a sunny or semi-shaded location.
Add compost and water well after planting.
Prune twice annually: in February, prune branches without buds short (2 eyes) to aerate the plant; in August, cut back long or whippy green side shoots of the current year's growth back to 20cm (about five leaves from the main stem).
Provide a robust climbing frame such as a sturdy wooden or metal arbour, pergola, or stout trellis.
Fertilise the soil annually in March with a potash- and magnesium-rich rose feed to promote abundant blooms.
