Planting Time: January to April, and October to December
Soil Type: Plant in any fertile, well-drained soil. If your soil is heavy clay, mix in organic matter to improve drainage.
Location: Plant at the base of a structure such as a pergola, arch, or wall. Also suitable for beds, borders, and large pots.
Spacing: Plant Wisterias 3m apart to allow for adequate light and airflow.
Watering: Water regularly after planting, especially during hot, dry periods. Once established, it will need minimal watering.
Feeding: Feed every spring with a well-balanced fertiliser.
Pruning: Prune twice a year to control growth and encourage flowering. In late summer (July/August), cut back the season's new whippy shoots to five buds. In late winter (January/February), prune these same shoots back again to 2-3 buds.
