Known as Dragon's Claw Willow, this unique deciduous plant is perfect as a standalone screen or within a mixed hedge.
Features wonderfully distinctive drooping branches and young stems that twist like corkscrews, creating spiraled, wavy leaves.
Provides fantastic winter interest with its bare, contorted branches, followed by vibrant, pollinator-friendly yellow catkins in spring.
A fully hardy and resilient choice, it thrives in all soil types and locations, including windy, exposed, and coastal areas.
The fascinating young branches are a favourite for floral arrangements, even developing roots when placed in water.

Habit: Grows in an upright, naturally slim form. Suitable for hedging.
Eventual Spread: Spreads 4-8m unless pruned
Hardiness: H5 - hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters (-15 to -10)
Growth Rate: Average, expect 20-40cm per year

Planting Time: Plant during the dormant season from October to March.
Spacing: For a dense hedge, plant in a double staggered row. We recommend 5 to 7 plants per metre.
Soil: Will tolerate less than perfect conditions but prefers well drained, loamy soils. If your soil is heavy or sandy, mix in some perlite or fine horticultural grit when planting to improve drainage.
Watering: Water establishing plants during dry spells for at least a year after planting.
Feeding: A low maintenance plant which gets its nutrients from the soil, feeding is not required.
Pruning: Prune during the dormant season in late winter or early spring. It develops a good framework naturally, so simply cut out any dead, diseased or damaged branches. To reduce size, cut back to old wood to encourage healthy new growth.
Pests & Diseases: Has good resistance but can be affected by aphids, caterpillars or rust.
