- Soil Type: Pear trees typically grow best in loamy, fertile soil with ample drainage. Amend your soil with some organic matter if you need to improve either fertility or drainage.

- Uses: Eating fresh, poaching, baking and juicing
- Your bare root stepover tree will arrive in a Y shape. You will need to gradually train the two main branches into a T shape on a horizontal frame.
- Prune every summer to maintain the tree's shape and encourage fruiting. Trim new side shoots from the horizontal arms to within a few leaves of the basal cluster. For previously pruned shoots, cut them back to a single leaf beyond the basal cluster. Remove any upright shoots growing from the arms.
- While generally robust, the tree can sometimes be affected by aphids, caterpillars, and pear scab.
- Pear trees follow the same care principles as apple trees.
