- Planting & Care
- An ideal peach variety for the UK's climate, with exceptional resistance to peach leaf curl.
- Enjoy abundant harvests of large, juicy, and fleshy peaches with a delightful sweet taste and aromatic notes.
- Harvesting begins in August.
- Self-pollinating, so a single tree will produce a good yield.
- Available on Montclare rootstock (H3m x W3m) for average gardens or as a very compact Dwarf (H1.5m x W1m) for pots.
- Our trees are 18-36 months old, professionally pruned for a strong shape, and supplied in recyclable EcoPots™.
- Latin Name: Prunus persica
- Species: Peach
- Features: Easy to grow, Disease resistant, Self fertile
- Flavour: Sweet and juicy with a good depth of peachy, aromatic flavours
- Uses: Eating, Making Jams
- Flowering: March, April
- Harvest: August
- Position: Full sun
- Soil: Prefers well drained, loamy soils. Will tolerate less than perfect conditions but may not fruit too well. Will struggle in poorly draining soil.
- Hardiness: Hardy. May require some protection from very late frosts as this can damage the flowers. This won't cause lasting damage to the tree but will reduce the yield of fruit that year.
- Eventual Spread: 4m
- Pest & Disease Resistance: Excellent resistance to the main pests and diseases for Peaches. Has high resistance to Peach leaf curl. Curled leaves will occasionally occur at the beginning of the spring, but re-infection to subsequent leaves is extremely rare. Avalon Pride does suffer from powdery mildew in very dry conditions which can be confused for leaf curl on occasions. You may see some damage from aphids and caterpillars, which can both be washed away with soapy water. Birds will eat the peaches. Reduce the risk of bacterial canker by pruning to improve airflow and remove rotting organic matter nearby.
- Pollination: Doesn't require pollination to produce fruit, unlike many other species.
- Pruning: Some structural pruning should be done each winter to ensure that your Peach Tree maintains a productive shape. This can improve yields and prevent disease.
- Planting Time: September, October, November
- Watering: Water in thoroughly when planting. For bare root trees, you won't need to water regularly going forward, only in dry spells when leaves start to wilt. Container grown trees need more watering until established; water every other day for the first few months, then twice a week until autumn. Water heavily and less frequently to encourage deep root growth.
- Feeding: No need to feed. This isn't a hungry plant.
Product Specifications
- Supplied As: Bare Root. Our bare root trees are lifted fresh from the field and packed straight away. In winter, you can store for several weeks if kept in a cool, dark spot. Later in spring, plant within a few days of arrival.
- Height on Arrival: 120-150cm inc. roots
- Rootstock: Montclare rootstock (grows up to 3m). Rootstocks limit tree height, making them manageable. Montclare Peach trees tend to only reach 3m tall, perfect for smaller spaces. They can also be trained to a smaller size by pruning or restricting the roots in a pot.
- Eventual Height: 3m
- Time to First Crop: You may see your first Peaches after 2 years but should not expect substantial crops for another 2-3 years after that.
