Planting Time: Can be planted at any time of year. Our bare root trees are lifted fresh; in winter, store for several weeks in a cool, dark spot. In spring, plant within a few days of arrival.
Watering: Water in thoroughly when planting. For bare root trees, only water during dry spells. It is better to water heavily and less frequently than little and often to encourage deep root growth.
Feeding: This is not a hungry plant and does not require regular feeding.
Pruning: Our trees are professionally pruned before shipping. Some structural pruning should be done each winter to maintain a productive shape, improve yields, and prevent disease by increasing air flow.
Pest & Disease: Has excellent resistance to most problems. Pruning to increase air flow helps prevent bacterial disease. Keep an eye out for rare issues like fire blight or Pear scab.
Pollination: Self-fertile. Does not require a pollinator, but yields may increase when pollinated by another Quince or Pear tree from a compatible group (3, 4, or 5) flowering at the same time within a mile's radius.
Harvesting: Harvest from late October to November. You may see your first quince after the first year, but don't expect substantial crops for another 2-3 years after that.
