- Pollination: Pollination Group 3. Requires a pollination partner to produce fruit. Trees that flower at the same time can pollinate each other. Trees can usually pollinate a group either side of their own (e.g. Group 3 can pollinate 2, 3, and 4).
- Uses: Cider making
- Planting: Plant 4m apart. Prefers fertile, well-draining soil but can tolerate clay if drainage is improved by mixing in fine horticultural grit or perlite. Our bare root trees are lifted fresh; in winter, store for several weeks in a cool, dark spot. In spring, plant within a few days of arrival.
- Watering: Water in thoroughly when planting. For bare root trees, only water during dry spells. It is better to water heavily and less frequently than little and often, to encourage the roots to grow deeper into the ground.
- Feeding: No feeding is required as apple trees get all the nutrients they need from the soil.
- Pruning: Prune each winter to maintain a productive shape, improve yields, and prevent disease. Pruning to increase airflow helps prevent bacterial disease. Keep an eye out for fire blight or apple scab.
- Cropping: You may see your first apples in the first year, but expect substantial crops in the 3rd or 4th year. Consider thinning fruit in the first few years to help the tree establish.
- Pollination: Requires a pollination partner. In most built-up areas, a suitable tree is likely to be within a mile. In rural areas, consider planting another apple tree from pollination group 2, 3, or 4 to aid pollination.
