Planting Time: Can be planted all year round.
Location: Ideal for beds, borders, and pots.
Soil: Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Avoid areas prone to frost and soils that have previously grown potatoes, chrysanthemums, or tomatoes, as they are prone to verticillium wilt.
Watering: Water frequently while new plants are establishing. Continue to water during dry periods in the growing season. Try to avoid wetting crowns and fruit as this can promote disease.
Feeding: To develop the best flavour, start feeding with a potassium-rich feed just as the flowers begin to show. This helps the plant produce fruit with more sugar and a better taste.
Pruning: If planted in late summer, remove the flowers in the first year to encourage a better crop next year. After harvesting, remove old leaves but leave the crown and new leaves untouched to allow sunlight into the centre of the plant.
