Our growers have completed the difficult initial training, so your tree is ready to establish.
Bare root trees are delivered in a Y-shape with two main branches, ready for you to train into a horizontal T-shape.
Ongoing care is straightforward, following the same principles as for stepover apple trees.

Habit: A low-growing tree with one central leader and two horizontal branches (arms) spreading on either side.

Pest & Disease Resistance: Good resistance, though can sometimes be affected by aphids, caterpillars and pear scab.
Uses: Eating fresh, poaching, baking and juicing.
Self-Fertile: Variety dependent.

Planting Time: Can be planted at any time of year.
Planting: Plant in a sunny spot with fertile, well-drained soil. Amend with organic matter to improve fertility or drainage if needed. Upon planting your Y-shaped bare root tree, you will need to gradually train the two main branches into a T-shape on a horizontal frame.
Pruning: Prune every summer. Trim new side shoots growing from the horizontal arms back to within a few leaves of the basal cluster at the base of the shoot. For previously pruned side shoots, cut them back to just a single leaf beyond the basal cluster. Remove any upright shoots, particularly those growing from the arms.
