Plant your trees in a sunny, sheltered spot. For best results, plant during the dormant season from autumn to spring.
Dig a hole twice the width of the rootball and to the same depth. Place the tree in the hole, ensuring the graft point is well above soil level.
Backfill with a mix of garden soil and compost, firming gently. Water thoroughly after planting.
Requires well-drained, fertile soil.
Water regularly, especially during dry spells and as fruits develop. Apply a mulch to retain moisture.
Feed in early spring with a balanced, general-purpose fertiliser.
Prune apples and pears in winter to maintain an open framework. Prune cherries and plums in summer to reduce the risk of silver leaf disease.
