"I am a returning customer as the first purchase was excellent. The hurdles I bought recently were badly made and damaged. The posts were split, and very poor quality. I understand that these things happen in transit etc, however, I have tried to contact Woven Wood for a week. They don't answer the telephone, the email on the website has gone unanswered and the email on Facebook has an auto reply saying it is un-monitored. Looks as though its just another online rip-off. I recommend avoidance."

Inconsistent quality

"Obviously this is a ‘rustic’ product. However, the panels varied considerably in terms of evenness of weave and thickness of Hazel. I rejected one that had flimsy twigs and large gaps. The panels and posts also varied in size, with some panels less than 70” wide, and some posts very spindly and bent like bananas, so - having ordered sufficient to replace 6-foot panel fence - I ended up with a gap of nearly a foot. Overall I like the product and the customer service when I chased the initial delivery, then reported an item missing from the first consignment, plus requesting a replacement, was friendly and helpful."

Hazel hurdles are a type of traditional, hand-woven fence panel made from coppiced hazel branches. They are made by weaving flexible hazel rods around upright stakes, creating a sturdy and eco-friendly barrier that allows wind to pass through. These rustic panels are have been created using the same techniques for thousands of years, initially used for animal enclosures, they now provide people with a stylish alternative to traditional garden fencing, and can also be used as a windbreak or screening.

Our hazel hurdles are skilfully handwoven, giving each panel its own unique charm and character. While we maintain consistent high standards and thoroughly inspect each product, no two panels are exactly alike. We offer a variety of hazel hurdle options that highlight their distinct and individual features.

Standard Premium hurdles are your vanilla hurdle, made with care and craftsmanship by artisans. Made with thick sustainably sourced hazel rods, they are sure to add durable rustic charm to any space.

Capped hurdles are an ideal solution for protecting plants and vegetation from harsh winds, as they are woven with smaller diameter rods that create a more effective windbreak. What's more, their distinctive capped finish sets them apart from any other type of hurdle, giving them a unique and attractive appearance.

Top-Bar Capped hurdles are similar to the capped except with a hurdle rod secured to the top of the hurdle for a smoother and more defined finish.

Framed hurdles are perfect for a more modern and sturdy appearance. The weave is fitted into a sturdy wooden frame and they make a great feature in any garden.

Our hurdles are available in multiple heights, 2ft, 3ft, 4ft, 5ft and 6ft. As standard they come in a 6ft width but we also offer shorter widths for some heights, check the product page for more details.

If you can't find the perfect fit it's easy for you to cut them to the right size (you have the weaver's permission). Height: easily cut the vertical rods to size, then simply remove the excess horizontal rod. Width: this requires more care - the cut ends will need to be secured with wire or nails to prevent them the weaving coming undone. We recommend to overlap hurdles rather than try and shorten them in this way.

Hazel and willow hurdles have a rich history as the oldest form of fencing in Britain, dating back over 5000 years to Neolithic times. Today, these environmentally friendly and durable fences are not only perfect for traditional English country gardens but also provide a unique and natural look for contemporary urban spaces.

Coppicing is a traditional and sustainable method of woodland management at least as old as hazel hurdles themselves. It involved harvesting hazel or willow by cutting it back almost to the stump - and then harvesting the resulting vigorous shoots of growth every few years. All Woven Wood's hurdles are made from hazel harvested in this way.

If you live in an area with high winds and have had issues with your paneled fencing blowing over, installing fence panels with gaps such as our willow and hazel hurdles can be a wise choice. The gaps in the weave allow wind to pass through, reducing the pressure and preventing damage.
