Hazel Fencing Installation Guide
If you want to quickly improve the appearance of your garden, consider using hurdle fencing. This type of fencing has a charming, countryside aesthetic that can instantly enhance the look of your outdoor space. Our hurdle fence panels are crafted from high-quality, ethically-sourced materials and woven by hand to create a one-of-a-kind, natural style that will complement any garden. Follow our simple step-by-step instructions or watch our instructional video to learn how to install hurdle fencing.
1) Secure the first post into the ground.
There is no need for concrete for this as our hurdles have natural gaps allowing air to pass though, so they put far less strain on the posts in wind than a conventional garden fence. You can use a mallet to hammer the post in or an auger to dig the hole out first, depending on how deep the posts needs to go. Ensure height of the post is a little lower than the height of the hazel hurdle where the weave starts. How long a post you will need is dependent on the height of the hurdle. For a 6ft hurdle, we recommend an 8ft post sunk 2ft into the ground excluding the stake. Smaller hurdles sizes may not need to be sunk as deep as they need proportionally less support.
2) Secure the second post.
3) Affix the hurdle itself to the posts.
We recommend using galvanized wire for this, as string will easily rot and fall apart. Affix the posts to the hurdles in at least three evenly spaces places to ensure stability, though for the smaller sizes just two fixing points may do. You can also use steel cable ties for this.
4) Create a run of hurdles.
To create a run of hurdles, you can affix the next hurdle along to the same post that is affixed to the first hurdle. Ensure the post is half covering each hurdle and simply affix in the same way. It's also easy to create a run of differently sized hurdles in this way. The last and first posts should be entirely behind the hurdle for maximum stability at the start and end of the run.
