We used to fence above

"We used to fence above the low back wall of a stone raised bed. Very sturdy and easy to use. One panel needed adjusting by 6 inches which the construction made simple. Looks great!"

Good enough for Cheltenham races

"These panels are so sturdy that they could be used as fences at Cheltenham race course! I am impressed and they look lovely in situ. They are very heavy (took two of us to move them) as they are built to last."

Privacy panel

"Made a very good privacy panel to disguise oil tank. Very good quality and pleased I went for top and bottom capped panel to attach to frame. Only issue was several pieces of hazel dislodged in transit that I had to reposition."

Hazel hurdles

"We love our new hazel hurdles, which have replaced an old fence. They were heavy but two of us managed to get them in place and they look great in situ, beside a pond. The only problem was that the screws on one top had sheared - presumably because the wood had warped since construction (didn’t notice on delivery). Luckily we needed to cut this area to accommodate a stepped wall so it wasn’t a problem for us."

Q&A

Frequently asked questions

Hazel hurdles are a type of traditional, hand-woven fence panel made from coppiced hazel branches. They are made by weaving flexible hazel rods around upright stakes, creating a sturdy and eco-friendly barrier that allows wind to pass through. These rustic panels are have been created using the same techniques for thousands of years, initially used for animal enclosures, they now provide people with a stylish alternative to traditional garden fencing, and can also be used as a windbreak or screening.

Properly secured willow and hazel fencing panels can last up to 10 years and provide a rustic aesthetic to your garden. It is essential to place them in a protected area away from strong winds to ensure their longevity. Regular maintenance can also help extend their lifespan. With proper care, you can enjoy your willow fencing panel for many years.

Natural fencing offers a variety of styles that can enhance the look of any garden. Hazel hurdles come in three varieties: standard, capped and top-bar capped. Capped has the top edge of the hurdle smoothed off for a sleeker finish, while top-bar capped has the addition of a bar along the top edge for increased durability. All our hurdles use coppiced branches, making them a sustainable choice.

For a contemporary appearance, you can choose framed hurdles, which feature handwoven materials inside and a robust outer edge, giving a polished and modern look.

If you live in an area with high winds and have had issues with your paneled fencing blowing over, installing fence panels with gaps such as our willow and hazel hurdles can be a wise choice. The gaps in the weave allow wind to pass through, reducing the pressure and preventing damage.
