Habit: Columnar. This tree has several shoots rather than a single stem, often arising from a central point but sometimes also from elsewhere.
Eventual Spread: Spreads 1-1.5m unless pruned
Hardiness: Fully hardy. This tree will survive under any condition including the occasional snowy winters in the UK.
Pest & Disease Resistance: Excellent pest and disease resistance; generally unbothered by pests and diseases.

Soil Type: Prefers well drained, loamy soils but will tolerate less than perfect conditions. If your soil is heavy or sandy, mix in some perlite or fine horticultural grit when planting to improve drainage.
Spacing: Plant 1m apart to allow for spreading.
Watering: Water in thoroughly when planting. As a container grown tree, it will need watering every other day or so for the first few months, then reduce to twice a week until autumn. In the second year, it should have an established root system and will only need watering in dry spells. When watering, it is better to give a good soaking less frequently than little and often.
Feeding: Feeding not required; this low maintenance tree gets its nutrients from the soil.
Pruning: Pruning is generally unnecessary. The best time to prune is late autumn, winter or early spring while the tree is dormant. You may wish to prune while it is young to establish its shape, otherwise, only remove dead, weak or broken limbs.
