- Planting & Care
- A historic variety, documented in France as early as 1668.
- Nicknamed the 'tiger' fig for its beautiful, striped green and yellow skin.
- Produces a large crop of stunning crimson figs with a sweet core.
- The figs have a rich, delicious raspberry flavour.
- Ideal for eating fresh from the tree or for drying.
- A self-pollinating tree with attractive, deeply lobed dark green leaves.
- Foliage turns a lovely yellow in autumn before the leaves are shed.
- Arrives professionally pruned to encourage a strong, bushy shape.
- Supplied in an EcoPot™, which uses 70% less plastic and is fully recyclable.
- Species: Fig
- Features: Self fertile
- Harvest Time: August, September
- Planting Time: All year round
- Position: Sunny, sheltered spot
- Sun: Full sun
- Habit: Upright
- Location: Beds & borders, Pots
- Eventual Spread: 2.5m (9ft)
- Hardiness: Hardy. Does not require protection from frost except in extreme circumstances.
- Pest & Disease Resistance: Generally pest and disease free. May be affected by cold weather, fruit rot, scale insect and red spider mite (especially under glass). Birds may be a problem.
- Soil Type: Can grow in any soil, but prefers a slightly alkaline sandy-clay soil.
- Tasting Notes: Rich raspberry flavour
- Watering: Water regularly in summer. The tree requires 2.5-4cm of water per week from rainfall or watering. Yellowing leaves can be a sign of thirst, but water before this point to avoid stressing the tree. Watering every 10-14 days should be sufficient.
- Feeding: Fig trees rarely need fertiliser. Only feed if the tree shows signs of slow growth or pale leaves. If growing in sandy soil, you may need to fertilise annually.
- Pruning: Prune in mid-spring, removing one-quarter to one-third of the older branches to encourage new growth.
