1. Regular Cleaning: It's important to clean your wooden planters at least once a year to prevent the build-up of dirt and grime. You can do this with a mild soap and warm water solution. Rinse thoroughly and allow the planter to dry completely.
2. Drainage: Make sure your planters have sufficient drainage to prevent water logging. Standing water can lead to rot, which can damage your planter and harm your plants. Consider drilling additional holes if necessary.
3. Protective Liner: Consider using a protective liner inside the planter to prevent direct contact between the soil and wood, which can lead to rot. You can use landscaping fabric, plastic or even a thick layer of newspaper.
4. Treating the Wood: To protect the planter from the elements and increase its lifespan, it's recommended to treat the wood annually with a non-toxic, weather-resistant wood sealant or preservative. Make sure to choose a product that's safe for use around plants
Our planters are handpainted, piece by piece. They have two coats of paint, with a 12 hour wait period between the coats.
Your wooden planter has been pressure treated, which is considered to be the most effective form or wood treatment. This means your planter is more durable and sturdy, and is more protected against wood rot.
Yes we recommend using a porous and permeable liner, as this will help protect the interior of the planter, as well as prolonging its life. We have a range of liners available as part of our planters accessories.
