A gorgeous deciduous shrub with big, beautiful flower clusters.
Enjoy huge, pompom-like white flowers in late spring, followed by bright red berries that turn black – a feast for the eyes and the birds!
Come autumn, the grey-green leaves transform into a stunning scarlet.
Tough and fully hardy, it can reach up to 5m but is easily kept at a smaller 1-3m height.
Happy in any fertile soil, it loves the sun but will settle into partial shade too.

Growth Rate: Average, expect 20-40cm per year

Soil Preparation: If your soil is heavy or sandy, mix in some perlite or fine horticultural grit when planting to improve drainage.
Spacing: For a hedge, plant in a double staggered row. We recommend 5-7 plants per metre for plants under 1.2m; 3-5 plants per metre for plants 1.2m-1.5m; and 3 plants per metre for plants over 1.5m.
Watering: Water establishing plants during dry spells for at least a year after planting.
Feeding: Not required. This low maintenance plant gets its nutrients from the soil.
Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed. Any pruning is best done after flowering in the spring. Note that cutting back flowering stems means they won't produce berries later in the year.
