Frequently asked questions
Can I grow soft fruit in a planter?
Yes, many varieties of strawberries, blueberries, and even raspberries grow well in pots with the right compost and care.
When is the best time to plant soft fruits?
The ideal time is during the dormant season (late autumn to early spring), but planter-grown plants can be planted year-round.
Do soft fruit plants prefer full sun?
Yes, most soft fruits thrive in full sun and need at least 6 hours of direct light daily for best yields and flavour. The advantage of planting in planters is that it's possibly to move the plant to a sunnier location after planting.
Will I get a good yield of fruit in the first year?
Some plants like strawberries may fruit lightly in year one, but most soft fruit plants give better harvests from year two onward. However it also depends on the age of the plant you buy, check the product page for more information.
Are soft fruit plants hardy?
Most are hardy in the UK climate, but young plants may benefit from protection during extreme cold. If you plant your soft fruit in planters, it makes it easier to move them to a more protected area during frosts and hail.
Are soft fruit plants self-fertile? Do I need more than one plant to get fruit?
Many soft fruits are self-fertile, but planting multiple varieties can improve yields—especially for crops like blueberries and currants.
How will my soft fruit plant arrive?
Our soft fruit tree arrive either potted or bare-root. Check the product pages for more detail on how your order will arrive.
